Background

The city of Tiberias is situated on the west bank of the Sea of Galilee. It has a shore strip of 7.70 kilometers and its area is 10,486 dunam. The city is a district city and the capital of the Eastern and Lower Galilee with 45,000 residents. The city is blessed with a year-round moderate warm climate, a rich culture and a multicultural and colorful people known for their warm and inviting hospitality.
Tiberias and the surrounding region are hosts for a multitude of historical and tourist sites stages of 3000 year old biblical stories and sites relating to the three major world religions. The city boasts the natural resources of the warm waters of the Sea of Galilee, as well as the natural hot springs of "Hamei Tveria" world known for its medicinal qualities.
During the last hundreds of years, there have been two attempts to renew the Jewish community in Tiberias. The second attempt was the one Rabbi Abulaffia tried and it was successful. This is the reason why the Jewish settlement in Tiberias preceded the First Aliya by 150 years. The city was granted the status of a city during the Ottoman regime in 1877 together with seven other cities including Jerusalem. The city was the first among the mixed cities to be liberated during the War of Independence, on April the 15, 1948. According to tradition, the city has the graves of the fathers and scholars of our nation as well as historical sites, which are milestones in our History.


Sites and attractions in Tiberia:

Gai Beach:

The Water Park of Chof Gai (attached to the Chof Gai Hotel) offers: challenge water slides, family water slides and slides for children and infants.

The Water Park also offers a wave pool, a regular pool, large loan areas, chairs and sunshades as well as a restaurant and a bar restaurant.

(Ganim Beach) Ganim Municipal Beach:

Ganim is a beach with large loans offering a childrens pool, shady sitting areas, and camping.

The Beriniki Mountain:

The Beriniki Mountain is named after Beriniki (Berenice), the sister of Agripas the Second. Tiberias was under his rule in the year 61 C.E.

In the archeological excavations that were done at the top of the mountain, a church from the Byzantine period (6th century), which was active and functioning continuously until the Crusader era (the 12th century) was discovered.

During the excavations remains of the Byzantine Wall of 10 meters long, with a square tower at each end, were found. The Towers and the Wall were built from well-chiseled Basalt stones.


Tabgha:

this is the traditional site of the Miracle of the Loaves and fishes, where jesus fed a multitude of five thousand with only five loaves and two fishes. the miracle is depicted in a beautifully executed mosaic, now part of the Byzantine Church of the Multiplication. the harbor near the church is called Mensa Christi or the Sanctuary of the Primacy, where jesus told simon (peter)

to establish his church.


Mount of the Beatitudes:

this is the site of jesus' Sermon on the Mount, and where he chose the twelve apostles from among his followers. there is an impressive ltalian hurch here and one of the loveliest views in israel.


Korazim:

Remains of third- century synagogue were uncovered in this national park. A ritual bath was discovered nearby, and tha remains of a Jewish town from Talmudic times. (04) 6934982.


Holyland Sailing:

In 1986 remnants of an ancient boat from the first century were found in the Kinneret.

According to found model, Holyland Sailing Ltd. built its first boats in Egypt and brought them to the Kinneret. Holyland Sailing Company owns 6 boats made out of wood with up to 115 seats in each boat. The boats sail in different tracks and have a variety of music on board. There is also an opportunity to hold special events on the boats like birthdays, Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrations, weddings and pilgrims ceremonies. The boats can be used for different themes for schools, retirees, etc.
